About us

As the pace of life on the West Coast became more and more intolerable, we started looking for a new home, and found the beautiful hills of north central Vermont. We purchased a lovely ca.1830 farmhouse, 25 acres of woods, and built a small bakery with a wood-fired brick oven..

We bake four varieties of bread now, and sell them through central Vermont's natural food Co-ops. Our mission is to nourish our community with delicious bread and to support local business.

We believe really good bread can only be produced on a limited scale. Too much of our food supply now comes to us from far away, and is often not really that tasty. There are huge supermarket chains selling us bread they call "Artisan", but - well, you be the judge of how good it is.

The alternative is small, sustainable businesses, not putting money into shareholders' pockets, but putting energy and love into local communities. For us, the future of good bread lies in some very old traditions: natural leavens, masonry ovens and bakers who love their craft.
